Ever Wonder How Custom Stair Rails Are Made? Part 2

A few weeks ago I posted an article about an impressive staircase I came across while previewing new homes in The Manor Golf & Country Club. At the time, the handrails where being formed to custom fit the stairs and I was impressed with the amount of labor and craftsmanship the process required. (If you’d like to see the original post, you can click here) Today, I went back to the home to see how the rails were coming along…

The rails have all been formed, sanded and joined, and they’ve started to attach them to the staircase with simple wrought iron balusters:

It’s hard to believe each of these pieces started out as a dozen or so flat slices of wood that were laminated together and clamped in place to dry. It’s stunning how perfectly the railings match every twist and turn of the staircase:

Every vantage point seems to showcase the complexity of the work, and just how unique each section is:

I’m looking forward to visiting again in a few weeks to see what the finished staircase looks like…
